Homeland Security
Keep abreast of the latest transportation security technologies and best practices

CCIT is helping the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), to secure California's transportation systems and improve Caltrans’ preparedness and response to terrorist attacks.

HOMELAND SECURITY FORUM: Please visit the Homeland Security Forum. To gain full access to the site, you will be required to request a password. This secured forum offers transportation security officers a chance to share their experiences and to refine best practices.

A Multi-Pronged Methodology

One of our primary goals is to keep Caltrans abreast of the latest technologies and best practices. We are combining a top-down approach (e.g., analyze threats and make specific recommendations) with a bottom-up approach (e.g., survey other states' and institutions' cutting edge technologies and implement versions tailored for Caltrans).

Additionally, we are creating forums on transportation security technologies and best practices. This will facilitate information sharing & discussion of the latest technologies.

The project tasks are aimed to address the risk and improve the security with the following focuses:

  • Researching and assessing transportation security technologies and best practices.
  • Assessing threats, vulnerabilities, and countermeasures.
  • Performing gap analysis and formulating risk mitigation plan and program to ensure a long-lasting secured transportation system.
  • Surveying of security technologies and best practices is used for developing the knowledge base.
  • The knowledge base will be used for assessing the vulnerability in the transportation systems and for security forums discussion.
  • The knowledge and skill gained in the vulnerability assessment and the security forums will be used to formulate mitigation plans and programs
